If you're not already sick of Alden stuff, then you might want to check out these photos - just developed - of Hallie's labor and his birth. Taken by Lisa Walter, they're obviously better than mine.

The Caulbearer

Well this is a strange post, but I couldn't resist. You see, Alden was born - completely - in his sack, or caul (see sac on Hallie's knee). Thus, he is a caulbearer. And according to legend, there are great things in store for him! Not that our other three are not the greatest, but this one... who knows!

Whoops! Another NAME UPDATE

With apologies to all who liked Davis Alden, we had another family pow-wow this morning and decided to reverse it to Alden Davis. Turns out the whole singular possessive controversy was worrying Emmett, who couldn't really embrace having to spend so much mental energy on the proper grammatical expression of his brother's name. Besides, according to Babynamewizard.com we're not the only ones who like the name.

**NAME UPDATE**

(12:36PM, FRIDAY): Davis Alden Greider. Sorry for the delay, but we all had to decide over breakfast. We've always liked Davis, which is also a variation of my middle name and my father's first name. And Alden is the surname of John and his wife Priscilla, ancestors to Hallie (and thousands others!) who emigrated to America on the Mayflower! Also, it sounds pretty cool.

Happy Birthday _____

Though we don't have a name yet(5:00AM), we do have a beautiful new baby boy! Born at home and in the water at 2:53AM, weighing in at a tiny 9.8lbs (our smallest yet!), he is healthy and happy, as is Mama and the rest of the team (Miriam, Shelly, Karen, Lisa, Emmett, Avery, Jude, and yours truly). We are blessed and very, very grateful.

PS - Posted a few photos on Flickr.

Baby X - UPDATED

As of 1:45PM Thursday, still waiting. Early labor started almost 60 hours ago, and we thought it would progress just the same as the other three. But no such luck. I've gone back to work each day, and Hallie's up and out and about, just trying to go with the flow. Right now, mild contractions are occurring every six or seven minutes, and we're completely ready whenever they kick into high gear. Our midwife, Miriam, came this morning and confirmed the baby is doing fine and in the right position. So we're just waiting...

UPDATE: No, still not here, but at 7:30PM Thursday Hallie called me (I'm still at the office and she's with the kids having dinner at a friend's house) to say that contractions are starting to feel a little more intense then the last three days. A little more burning. So, I'm heading home in about an hour and who knows...

2 Years

Strange, I get more excited about my blog anniversaries than my own birthdays.

Things are Looking Good for...

...Indiana! That's right. First, we announce we're moving back. And now the Colts win the Super Bowl. Coincidence? I doubt it. Regardless, again I have to ask, "Who's comin' with us?"

Forget About the Smoking Ban...

This should really disturb people. It's truly unprecedented, and illustrates both the (im)moral state of our nation (most young girls, at least in Texas, are sexually active before marriage) and the unfathomable degree to which government will intrude into her peoples lives. Yes, you can "opt out" for religious reasons (which obviously we would do, since we haven't vaccinated for anything, let alone a sexually-transmitted disease), but still the State is going to require and pay for - to the tune of $2 billion - a vaccine against a disease that must be pro-actively sought out, rather than passively caught.

PS - Did I say how stunned I am by this? And does anyone wonder why health insurance and taxes are so high? $360/shot! Often paid for by Uncle Sam.

Blog Post Comments... Out of Control!

If you're interested, I got sucked into this blog discussion about FW's downtown development plans. I'm a little late arriving, but then I make up for lost time. I'm the big 'S' Scott, not the small 's' scott, though we're on the same side.
