Fujimora in Fort Wayne (kind of...)

The connection between NYC and FW remains strong. Two nights ago at a YNLI event at Club Soda, I met a young architect moving to NYC (Chelsea, actually!) from FW to work the trade. Then this morning, reading the JG on my second morning of delivery, I notice this article about a friend of mine from NYC.

Anyway, Mako Fujimura is an amazing artist and visionary, and Christian and mentor.

Hello, Fort Wayne

Well, we're here, though it still kind of feels like we're on vacation. We're currently crashing at Hallie's sister's place in Pine Valley, which is just what we've done every other time we've come "home" for vacations over the last decade or so. So even though we unloaded the U-Haul yesterday (thanks Jon and sons!) and agreed to replace Grandmas kitchen countertop already, and ate at Bandidos (never again!!), and attended church this morning at Emmanuel Lutheran downtown (maybe again), we still can't shake the feeling that we're just passing through and that we'll be "going home" after a week or so. Hmmm...

So about that church... great place, great service, great mission, and great people! If only we were Lutheran. :-( I'm Reformed, to be sure, so this isn't far off. But I'd had to affirm some pretty serious stuff should we decide to join, or even partake of communion. Not sure I can do that. We'll see. But if you're Lutheran, wow! Make it your home.

So for the next few months, we'll be renovating 1010 Broadway by day, and crashing in a cozy commorancy on Union Street (south West Central) by night. Feel free to stop by either place at almost any time and say hi. We're really - really - looking forward to meeting and joinging hands with everybody.

PS - Thanks, Mitch, for the plug!

Goodbye, NYC

Don't really know how to write about leaving the city we've lived in and loved for over half our lives, so I'll just say we are. As most of you know, we're sad and scared, but also happy and excited! So much and so many we're leaving behind, but we trust in the of God of grace, that as much as he has given us so far, there's so much more to come.

I've often referred others to this hymn (one of my favorites) during their times of trial. While ours doesn't compare to most, the sadness and uncertainty we feel is nevertheless palpable.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Pray with us that this is true and we'll never doubt God's sovereign and good plan for our lives.

And thanks to everyone who has made our years here so wonderful. We love you and we'll never forget you.

Keep in touch, and so will we.

Vacation

After a trying yet wonderful week, culminating in a one of the best Sundays ever at church and with our NYC friends and family, we're off for a two-week vacation. We're taking a road trip to Texas and back! We'll try to check in occasionally. But the best way to reach us will be my mobile: 347-623-4232.

Our lovely friend Karen wrote this Ode for us, and read it to us at our picnic yesterday. We love you Karen!
