Evaluating Obama

My friend Darin posted this and I agree completely with his comments. Like many, I have been moved by Obama's charisma and conviction, his campaign style and his calls for change. It's truly been refreshing. But I've stopped short of signing on, believing that once the rather tepid Democratic infighting stopped, and his positions and policies come out during the general election campaign, I'd probably find things that were extremely tough to swallow. Well, here one is... Believe me, I'm no right-winger, but some of these statements make me cringe.

And don't read this as a negative attack. I'm not slamming the man's character or integrity, which seem to be higher than most in politics. Simply disagreeing strongly with some of his beliefs, arguments, and positions.

It's been said evangelicals are one-issue voters. Most are.

And...Republicans are smart enough to market to one issue voters, even though, it's been noted, no one in the GOP is really serious about overturning Roe vs. Wade.

I think if McCain gets elected, very little will change regarding Roe vs. Wade. He also, by the way, supports some forms of stem stell research. I imagine we'll be in Iraq for another 1000 years if "that's what it takes".

I think if Obama gets elected. We will end the war in Iraq.

I'm looking for change.

The good news is that the number of abortions that take place have gone down over the years. This is not due to legislation but rather more young people being aware of where babies come from and knowing how to prevent pregnancy.

Change yea right! He's for flip-flopping depending on who he's speaking to.
The man held office for 143 days before deciding to run for President.
He's a healer. He's NEVER crossed party lines in any vote.
He'll end the war and pull out troops in 2009. Now he CLAIMS he's always said he be out in 16 months after taking office. Which means the spring of 2010.
He got a sweet heart loan from the CEO of Countryside mortgage.
(under investigation for fraud)
He slept for 20 years in church. He hardly knew the man who was a leader in the Weather Underground who had 2 fund raisers in his house for him when he was Illinois state senate.
His major fund raiser at that time is under indictment.
His current ad states that he pushed for welfare reform and to get people off the welfare rolls which is an out and out lie.
Change yea

I wish the link to your friend's post would work for me. I just get a prompt for ID and password, which of course I lack... Was kinda of looking forward to reading a WELL REASONED critique of Obama. (Those are so few and far between, obviously!!) I support his campaign, but always appreciate exposure to other positions... so long as they're not rabid rant-type crapola.

Thanks for your blog; just found it and plan to read more! Lo
