Ricki Lake! She's had her ups and downs with weight, divorce and stardom. She joins Larry to talk about that - and her newest venture, filmmaking. She's produced a documentary about a cause close to her heart, home birth...and wait 'til you see how great Ricki looks!
Don't really care about that last part, but discussion of the documentary should be worth it.
Relatedly, 133 tickets have been sold for the event. If you're intending to attend, you might want to guarantee yourself a seat by ordering online (and save money to boot!)
Newsweek addresses the birth issue at hand: the fact that one third of babies in this country are delivered by C-section! The article highlights the provocative documentary by Ricki Lake, The Business of Being Born, which Hallie and her sister (i.e. Birth Matters) are bringing to the downtown Fort Wayne library this Saturday. It's a huge issue (as illustrated by the graphic below) that needs addressing. Come to the screening and be amazed!
I've just started watching this speech in the last few years, as video on places like YouTube has made it much more accessible. But it has quickly become the starting point for an annual emphasis with our kids on the sins of our Nation's past and the hope of our nation's future. It's so amazing that this event was recorded. What he said was great, and how he said it was almost greater (not really, but the goosebumps all over my body starting around 12:20 make it seem like it!)
I don't post this to be political; I know MLK was politically polarizing and morally imperfect. But I don't have to agree with his politics or pretend he was a saint to say that what he said in this speech needed to be said. And still needs to be said!
This past summer, our family traveled South through Birmingham and Little Rock and Memphis, among others, and learned a great deal about civil rights, American racism, and MLK. Powerful stuff for a Northerner! And his kids!

I grew up in Fort Wayne, IN, moved to NYC after graduating from high school, and then moved back to Fort Wayne 17 years later. Blogging is harder with yard work to do, but I'll try...
